STATESBORO, Ga. - The Ole Miss men's golf team fired an opening round score of 301 and currently sits in a tie for 14th after day one at the Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern.
Sophomore Joe Lewis carded a 2-over par 74, including a pair of birdies, in the first round at the 6,962-yard Forest Heights Golf Course in Statesboro and is tied for 30th overall. Redshirt freshman Chris Ingham also turned in pair of birdies in a 3-over par round of 75 and is tied for 45th. Junior Tom Brown and sophomore Blake Morris both fired 4-over rounds of 76 and are tied for 55th, while true freshman Forrest Gamble posted an opening round of 81 and is tied for 81st.
"This spring has been baffling to me as a coach," said Ole Miss head man Ernest Ross. "We seem to prepare well, but we make uncharacteristic mistakes on the course. The mistakes are not in a particular pattern. It is unusual to me because we don't usually make these same mistakes in practice. I know our confidence is not high right now, but I believe confidence is a choice. We will get better."
