OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss junior pitcher Carly Hummel struck out six while throwing a complete game against No. 3 Florida on Friday night at the Ole Miss Softball Complex, but the Rebels (19-19, 1-9 Southeastern Conference) fell 4-1 to the visiting Gators.

It was Hummel's second consecutive complete game performance at home, and her fifth of the season. The Bakersfield, Calif., native's six strikeouts are her most since throwing six at Tennessee-Martin on March 13.

"Carly had all of her pitches working ... both pitchers looked really phenomenal today, and I thought the biggest thing for Carly was her confidence in each pitch," Ole Miss softball head coach Windy Thees said. "There was no hesitation. As soon as she got the signal she was completely committed to the pitch, and as a pitcher that's such an important thing is to be 100 percent behind every pitch you're going to throw."

After allowing one run in the first inning with a double deep to center field with no outs recorded, Hummel regrouped to strike out the next three batters consecutively to get out of the inning with no additional damage.

The Gators scored two runs in the top of the second with a two-run home run to left-center field to take a 3-0 lead.

Ole Miss junior center fielder RT Cantillo led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk, followed by a bunt single down the third base line from senior left fielder Brittany Broome to put runners on first and second. Sophomore third baseman Allison Brown then advanced Cantillo and Broome to third and second, respectively, with a sacrifice bunt. Junior first baseman Londen Ladner then recorded her 22nd RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly deep to left-center field to pull the Rebels within two at 3-1.

Florida answered with one run in the top of the seventh to regain its three-run lead with a single to center field that scored catcher Taylore Fuller from second base and give the Gators the final score of 4-1.

Saturday's game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. CT and Sunday's series finale will start at 1 p.m. CT.

Saturday will be Crawfish Saturday, with 100 pounds of free crawfish available in the outfield.

In addition to Sundae Sunday for the series finale on Easter, there will be an Easter egg game where all fans will receive an Easter egg with candy and a name of an Ole Miss player. If that player is the first in the softball game to do any of the following actions (have a hit, throw a strikeout, hit a home run, steal a base, record an RBI or catch a foul ball), be the first to bring it to the press box for a prize.
