STARKVILLE, Miss. - On a cool and damp Sunday afternoon in Starkville, Miss., the Ole Miss softball team could not get its offense going and fell to Mississippi State 8-0 in the series finale.
Junior catcher Marina Parra threw out a pair of base runners Sunday, giving her 18 caught stolen bases for the season, the most in the SEC.
Mississippi State (27-14, 6-9 SEC) scored four runs in the bottom of the first off two hits and a pair of Rebel errors.
The Bulldogs then plated three more runs in the second inning on four hits to take a 7-0 lead.
Mississippi State then ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with a sac fly deep to right field to win 8-0.
The Rebels (21-26, 2-16 Southeastern Conference) will take the field again Wednesday when they face Louisiana Monroe at the Ole Miss Softball Complex at 4 p.m. CT. As it is for every home softball game on Wednesday, it will be Dollar Wednesday with hot dogs and popcorn sold at the concession stand for $1. Fans will also be able to enter a raffle to win an HD camcorder.
