WEST POINT, Miss. - Incoming Ole Miss freshman golfer Jacob Ross captured the Mississippi Junior Amateur Championship last week at the Old Waverly Golf Club, becoming just the second junior ever to win two titles.

The Brookhaven, Miss., native fired a 3-under 69 in the final round to post the come-from-behind, one stroke victory over Braden Thornberry with a three-round total of 4 under-par. Ross entered the round one shot behind Thornberry, but recorded birdies at Nos. 9, 10 and 12 to propel him into the lead.

Ross won the 2011 Mississippi Junior Amateur with a three-round total of 2-under par at the Lake Caroline Golf Club in Madison. He is a four-time Mississippi Association of Independent Schools champion, two-time Mississippi Golf Association Junior Player of the Year, and is currently ranked the No. 1 player in the state in his class.
