Ole Miss WNBA Update(Sept. 16)

The WNBA regular-season concluded on Sunday (September 15)and with the playoffs starting on Thursday (Sept 20), Ole Miss has ties to twoplayoff series. Former Ole Miss player and head coach, Carol Ross will lead theLos Angeles Sparks into the conference semifinals against the Phoenix Mercurywhile former Lady Rebel Armintie Price-Herrington and her Atlanta Dream squadwill open semifinal action against the Washington Mystics. Both series getunderway on Thursday (Sept. 19).

Los Angeles Sparks
Carol Ross' squad met the same Mercury squad to close the regular season onSunday (Sept. 15) taking an 89-55 win as the teams split the regular-seasonseries, 2-2.  Los Angeles is the No. 2 seed and hold homecourt advantage over the No. 3 seeded Mercury. The Mercury beat the Sparks 97-81 in Phoenix on June 14, and addeda 90-84 victory on July 18. L.A.'s other win in the series, 88-76, was inPhoenix on July 14. The series schedule is below:

Atlanta Dream
Atlanta closed the regular-season on Sunday with a loss to the San AntonioSilver Stars. The Dream opened the regular-season series going 3-0 against theMystics but Washington won the last two meetings, including an 85-80 overtimewin on the road on Aug. 28. The Dream are the No. 2 seed and will have homecourt advantage should the series go to a third game. Atlanta's AngelMcCoughtry is averaging 22.0 points per game. Price-Herrington enters theplayoffs averaging 7.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game but didnot play in the regular-season finale with a shoulder injury. The Dream havereached the WNBA Finals two of the last three years and are making their fifthplayoff appearance.
