Rebels Conclude Day One At CCLR Invitational

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Ole Miss women's tennis junior Julia Jones posted a big win on day one of the Country Club of Little Rock Invitational to lead the Rebel contingent Friday.
Jones downed Hermone Brhane of Oklahoma, who is ranked No. 47 in the nation, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the A Draw. She will face Yang Pang of Arkansas in the semifinals Saturday. With the win, Jones improved to 4-1 on the year.
In her first action of the year, sophomore Allie Robbins came back to beat Araujo of Arkansas 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the C Draw. She will face the top seed, Lynn Kiro of Texas Tech in the semifinals.
Senior Caroline Rohde-Moe, ranked No. 39, and sophomore Marija Milutinovic, both lost their opening matches in three sets. Rohde-Moe dropped a tight battle to Skylar Kuykendal of Memphis in the A Draw, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. Milutinovic fell to Kenna Kilgo of Texas Tech 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
In first round doubles, Robbins and Jones lost to Kuykendal and Alyssa Hibberd of Memphis 6-3. The teams played a new format of first one to six wins the match, instead of the usual 8-game pro set. Rohde-Moe and Milutinovic, ranked No. 24 in the nation, had a bye in the first round.
