Rebels Add Two More Wins at Ole Miss Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. - After a solid first day at the Ole Miss Invitational, the Ole Miss women's tennis team picked up two more wins Saturday in doubles and singles at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The Rebels began the day with singles against Texas Tech. Senior Iris Verboven was the lone winner, downing Hortense Boscher 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Two of the matches went three sets, but Texas Tech won both at No. 2 singles and No. 4 singles. After knocking off the No. 6 ranked player on Friday, Julia Jones fell to 83rd-ranked Lynn Kiro 6-3, 6-3.
Following singles, the Rebels took on Vanderbilt in doubles, with Julia Jones and Marija Milutinovic defeating Maggie Leavell and Payton Robinette 8-2 at No. 3.
"Iris did well," head coach Mark Beyers said. "In singles and doubles it was a situation where we were close. I don't think we executed in a lot of close situations. We had some lapses a couple of games in a row, where people didn't handle adversity that well. I thought Texas Tech handled that a little bit better. It's not like we got completely outplayed. I just felt like they were a little bit tougher and a little bit more consistent as far as their ability to deal with adversity than we were."
The Rebels will conclude play Sunday with doubles against Georgia at 11:30 a.m., followed by singles against Vanderbilt at 1 p.m.
