OXFORD, Miss. - After starting the final day of the Ole Miss Invitational with a delay, the Ole Miss women's tennis team picked up five more wins Sunday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center and the Gillom Sports Center.

Due to court issues in the morning, no teams competed in doubles play and some singles matches were forced to move inside.

"It was kind of a bizarre day today where the courts are wet and it's 83 degrees outside," head coach Mark Beyers said. "I appreciate our grounds crew getting those courts dry and we got some play in while we were all here."

The Rebels took on Vanderbilt in singles and downed the Commodores in four of five matches. Senior Julia Jones knocked off Astra Sharma at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3. In No. 3 singles, junior Mai El Kamash defeated Ellie Yates 7-5, 6-3. Senior Iris Verboven dominated Maggie Leavell 6-0, 6-2, while junior Marija Milutinovic defeated Peyton Robinette 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Freshman Arianne Hartono fell to Marie Casares at No. 2 6-1, 7-5.

"Anytime you have an individual tournament where you have a whole bunch of people playing, you're always going to have some good and some bad," Beyers said. "At the end of the day, we saw a lot of good things, but there still are some things that we need to work on in the next couple of weeks. The good thing is that it is October and we have a couple of months before the main season starts. We have time to work on that. These are the tournaments where we see some of those things as coaches and have a little bit more of a clear path for the individual players as to what they need to work on."

Georgia claimed the singles championship, winning 12 matches on the weekend. The doubles crown went to Vanderbilt, who went 4-2 but was undefeated at the top two positions. Sarah Dvorak of Texas Tech was named the individual champion. The Red Raider was the only player in the top two spots to remain undefeated throughout the tournament.

The Rebels will return to action on Oct. 31 at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
