Rebel Softball Announces 2015 Schedule
10/7/2014 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team will play a challenging schedule in the 2015 season that features 26 home games and the annual Red & Blue Classic, head coach Mike Smith announced on Tuesday.
The 26 home games will feature 15 contests against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago while the Rebels will play a total of eight series and 25 games against teams that went to the post-season last year.
"I feel like we have a good mix of top 150 RPI teams, among others, especially early on with a trip to the Kajikawa Tournament," Smith said. "We will play two Pac-12 teams, Fresno State and San Jose State. We get the trip to Coastal Carolina and then the trip to Miami with some teams who have done well in their conference. I think we'll be battle tested early to prepare us for the SEC. It's a good pre-conference schedule to prepare for the grind at the end of the year and be competitive in the SEC."
The Rebels open the season on the road at the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State University (Feb. 5-8). There, Ole Miss will play six games, facing off against Oregon State, San Jose State, the host Arizona State, Fresno State, UC-Santa Barbara and Western Michigan.
Ole Miss will then head to the east coast to compete at the Battle at the Beach the following weekend (Feb. 13-15). The Rebels will play five games in the tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina, including games against Iowa State, St. Bonaventure and the hosting Chanticleers.
The third week of play will see the Rebels return home to play the first home contests of the season in the annual Red & Blue Classic (Feb. 20-22). In that four-game tournament, Ole Miss will face off against UT-Martin, Nebraska-Omaha, SIU-Carbondale and Middle Tennessee.
A doubleheader against Southern Miss (Feb. 25) is next on the docket before taking to the road for the final non-conference tournament of the season at Florida International (Feb. 27 - Mar. 1). The Rebels will face off against Bethune Cookman, FIU and Michigan State for a total of five games in Miami.
Ole Miss will continue the season with non-conference games during in the midweek against Memphis (Mar. 3), UAPB (Mar. 10), UT-Martin (Mar. 31), at Samford (April 8) and at Mississippi Valley State (April 29). The Rebels will also host a weekend series against Louisville (April 17-19).
The Rebels will welcome SEC teams to Oxford for weekend series as Auburn (Mar. 13-15), Mississippi State (Mar. 20-22), Georgia (April 10-12) and South Carolina (April 24-26) all come to compete at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
Ole Miss will travel for four weekends, hitting the road to take on Alabama (Mar. 6-8), Arkansas (Mar. 27-29), LSU (April 3-4) and Texas A&M (May 1 -3).
