Rebels Add Megan Harris To Recruiting Class

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss has added a second outfielder to the recruiting class for the 2015-16 academic year as Texas native Megan Harris will be joining the Rebels, head coach Mike Smith announced on Tuesday.
Harris is the second announced member of the recruiting class, joining Florida outfielder Kylan Becker as a part of the group coming to campus for the 2016 season. Ole Miss will continue to announce a member of the recruiting class each day until completion of the group.
"Megan is an outfielder who brings good speed and covers the outfield well," Smith said. "She's another player who brings us versatility in the outfield. She has a strong arm and speed on the bases. We expect her to give us some leadership as she progress through the program."
A four-year letter winner in softball, Harris turned in a stellar junior season at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas, hitting at a .635 clip with a .971 slugging percentage, 11 triples, two home runs and 39 stolen bases.
That performance earned several accolades for the outfielder who was named the District 16 - Class 4A Most Valuable Player on the way to first team All-State honors from the East Texas Sports Network, the Texas Girls Coaches Association and the Texas Sportswriters Association. Harris also was a first team All-East Texas selection.
As a sophomore in 2013, Harris was named a first team All-District selection in Distritct 16 for Class 4A and was also selected to the All-East Texas Team. That came on the heels of being named the Newcomer of the Year in District 14 for Class 4A as a freshman in 2012.
With her club team, the Texas Firecrackers DFW Pool Gold, Harris helped the squad to several finishes of note in national tournaments, including a fourth-place finish at the Kansas Top Gun Invitational, a ninth-place finish at the Colorado Fireworks Power Pool, a 26th-place finish at the Triple Crown/USA Nationals and a 33rd-place finish at the PGF Premier Nationals in 2014.
In the 2013 club season, Harris competed with the Texas 16U Naudine and helped post runner-up finishes at the Hall of Fame and Triple Crown Nationals.
She has also been successful in the classroom, earning academic All-District honors in 2012, 2013 and 2014 while being a member of the National Honor Society, the National Technical Honor Society and the Health Occupation Students of America.
Harris also lettered four years in volleyball, four years in track and one year in basketball. As a volleyball player, she was named an All-District first team selection in 2014 and an All-District second team selection in 2013. Harris was a second team All-State selection in track in 2012 and holds the school record for triple jump.
