OXFORD, Miss. - If you are staying in town or visiting family in Oxford for the Thanksgiving break, and looking for something fun and inexpensive to do, come support the Ole Miss Volleyball team as they began a four-match homestand at the Gillom Sports Friday against No. 6 Florida.
First serve for the Rebels and Gators will be at 6:30 p.m. Fans who bring two cans of food for the Million Meals Challenge will receive two tickets to the Nov. 23 men's basketball game.
NOTING THE REBELS ...
• Ole Miss comes into the final homestand with a 20-8 overall record, 6-8 in the SEC.
• Junior Nakeyta Clair is expected to return to the lineup after missing last weekend's matches due to illness. She is on the cusp of setting the single season kills record in the rally scoring era, needing just seven kills against Florida to break the record held by Whitney Craven (324).
• Sophomore setter Aubrey Edie recorded a career-high 62 assists against Mississippi State to set the single match record in the rally scoring era and then set the single season record (1,079) at Texas A&M with 53 assists. With 42 assists against Kentucky, Edie went over 2,000 for her career and sits at 2,079. She ranks second in the SEC with 11.30 assists per set.
SCOUTING FLORIDA ...
Florida clinched at least a share of the SEC Championship last weekend with a 3-1 win at No. 15 Kentucky.
• The Gators are led by sophomore right side Alex Holston, who averages 3.61 kills per set, and freshman middle blocker Rhamat Alhassan, who leads the conference in hitting percentage at .468.
SEASON RECORD WATCH FOR CLAIR ...
With seven kills against Kentucky, Nakeyta Clair will set the single season record for kills in the rally scoring era. Whitney Craven holds the record with 324 in 2010. Clair is also on pace to set the single season record in hitting percentage in the rally scoring era with a current .423. Former All-American Regina Thomas owns the record at .421.
THAT'S AN ACE! ...
Sophomore outside hitter Melanie Crow has a powerful jump serve. At Missouri, she had three aces to tie recent graduate Kara Morgan for the single season record (30) in the rally scoring era (to 25). Crow is averaging 0.30 aces per set, which ranks fourth in the SEC.
ICYMI ...
The Rebels have achieved a lot of success under first-year head coach Steven McRoberts, among them, posting the best start in school history and winning 20-matches for the first time since 2007. Looking to continue the upward trend, the Rebels have added six talented players to the program as part of the 2015 signing class that will join the Rebels in the fall of 2015. Coming from five different states, Caroline Adams, Laina Carnes, Kathryn Cather, Audrey Fischer, Taylor Gill and Alexis Lee are expected to arrive on campus in the summer to begin preparation for the 2015 campaign. Click on the Signing Day Central page for more information on all six players.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Steven McRoberts ...
"We're excited to close out the regular season at home with four matches, including three against the top teams in our league. It's a great opportunity for our team, and we would love to encourage anyone staying in Oxford during the fall break or coming to town to visit family for Thanksgiving to help us have that home court advantage."
