Ole Miss vs. MTSU
November 23, 2014
HEAD COACH Matt Insell
On today's game…
"Our kids played their tail off. We did not execute from time to time. There are definitely some things we need to work on executing. We have a lot of young players. Toree Thompson, our freshman point guard, is young and I am really proud of how she played. We have Erika Sisk, and this was her first time in a big time game for her at Ole Miss. I am really proud of how she played, also. Tia Faleru did what Tia does. MTSU has a good team. We knew that coming in. I am really happy with the fight we had. I know we are going to have some ups and downs. This team is a long way from getting to where we can be. But, I am just really proud of how we battled."
On the matchup against MTSU …
"This is why we play the game. We knew this was going to be a high level game. This was a game I wanted our kids to win so badly. They prepared and worked really hard for this game. It was a good game. It was a good game to watch. We are going to go back to practice tomorrow and keep working."
On the problems in the game …
"I think our youth showed a little bit, especially late in the game. We did not want to lose the fight. Our team kept grinding every possession. Our team did not want to give in. That is something I am extremely satisfied and happy with. Middle Tennessee did a really good job. They have a great team. They also did a great job of scouting us. They found things to exploit us on. We finally settled down and got into some stuff. It was a good game for us. That is why you play this game. That is why you play a big time matchup like this. We are going to work on some things and we are going to win. We are going to win these types of games as the season goes on and we continue to get better. We are going to watch some tape tomorrow and learn about some things and we are going to get better as a basketball team."
On playing against his father…
"I am glad it is over. There was a lot of talk about coaching against my father. I really wanted to just focus on the game. I am glad the first time is over. Now we can just settle in and play each other from here on out. I think this game will make us better. This was a really good game for us to play to learn. We have some players who stepped up and made plays, and we have some players who need to step up and make plays. I am really happy with this. I am proud of my basketball team. Now it is time to get back to work and continue getting better."
