OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss rounded out its 2015 recruiting class with the addition of Texas pitcher Krista Jacobs, head coach Mike Smith announced on Wednesday.
Jacobs is the 10th announced member of the recruiting class, joining Kylan Becker (Miami, Florida), Megan Harris (Whitehouse, Texas), Ashton Lampton (Decatur, Mississippi), Kennedy Cline (Lumberton, Texas), Sarah Van Schaik (Petal, Mississippi), Sydney McKeown (Newport Beach, California), Soraya Shahbazian (Rancho Palas Verdes, California), Morgan Kazerooni (Kennesaw, Georgia) and Hailey Lunderman (Choctaw, Mississippi) in the class for the 2015-16 academic year.
"Krista has had a successful high school career," Smith said. "She wants the ball when the game is on the line and has a bulldog type attitude. She has a good pedigree with sisters who have pitched and been successful at their schools. She comes from a good high school program with recent success. She's also played with the Firecrackers out of Texas. She's a big kid and will give us some quality innings as a freshman as long as she is willing to work hard, the sky is the limit for her."
A four-year letter winner at Magnolia West High School under head coach Sheryl Tamborello, Jacobs has garnered several honors throughout her career. Her freshman season, Jacobs was named an honorable mention All-District selection. She was named her team's Most Valuable Pitcher and a first team All-District selection as a sophomore and a second team All-District pitcher as a junior.
In her career, she has posted a 2.90 ERA with 122 strikeouts and the program's first appearance in the playoffs during the 2012 campaign. She followed that up with helping her team return to the Bi-District finals in 2013 and the Region Finals in 2014 as a junior.
Jacobs has also performed well in the classroom, earning academic recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2014 with selection as an NFCA Scholar Athlete.
She has also competed in travel ball with the Texas Firecrackers, helping the squad to a ninth-place finish at the Triple Crown Nationals and a 13th-place finish at the PGF Nationals.
Jacobs follows in the footsteps of two older sisters who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level with one sister, Ashley, having played a four-year career at Texas Tech and her other sister, Emily, playing two years at West Texas A&M and a season at Texas State.
