Ole Miss in Contention Entering Final Round
11/4/2014 | Men's Golf
KAUAI, Hawaii - Sophomore Noah West fired a career-low single round, 6-under par 66 to lead the Ole Miss men's golf team in the second round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii.
On the strength of seven birdies, the Belden, Mississippi, native moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard on day two and is tied for sixth going into the final round.
Ole Miss tied for third place with No. 42 Louisville with a two-round score of 24-under 552. The Rebels sit just seven strokes back from tournament leader No. 11 Georgia Tech.
"We got off to a good start today and really seemed to be in control throughout the day," Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy said. "Unfortunately, we didn't do a very good job of finishing our round. Fortunately, Noah really stepped up and kept us in this tournament. I am very confident that these guys will respond and have a great round tomorrow."
Senior Blake Morris continued his strong showing, carding a 1-under 71. Morris is tied for 13th place with a two-round total of 6-under 138. Sophomore Ben Wolcott posted a 1-over par 73 on day two and is tied for 19th place.
Juniors Connor Davis and Forrest Gamble are tied for 29th place, each carding a two-round score of 2-under 142. Freshman Josh Seiple, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 68th place.
The third and final round will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, 12:30 p.m. Central Standard Time. Fans can follow live scoring of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational by going to OleMissSports.com and clicking the link on the calendar.
