12/3/2014 | Volleyball
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss senior defensive specialist Rachael Weathersby was recognized for her hard work off the volleyball court Wednesday as she was named to the annual Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced.
Hailing from Driftwood, Texas, Weathersby has participated in a number of events in the community, including More than a Meal, Adopt a Basket, Reading with the Rebels, Books and Bears, SAAC Trunk or Treat, Operation Christmas Child, Community Kids (Community Church) and Serve the Server (through Community Church).
This marks the second year in a row for Weathersby to be named to the SEC Community Service Team.
The SEC sponsors community service teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The community service team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts. The 2014 edition is the 11th annual volleyball community service team.
Weathersby played in all but three matches this year and posted double-digit digs in two of the team's final three matches. She helped lead the Rebels to their best start in school history and the most wins since the 2007 season.
