Through 22 games a year ago, the Rebels had posted a 20-2 record and were coming off an SEC-opening series win at Arkansas. Ole Miss was hitting at a .299 clip with eight home runs and 132 RBI, while going 24-of-40 in steal attempts. The Rebel pitching staff was holding to a 2.42 ERA and a .227 opponent's batting average. Pitchers had allowed 75 walks with 186 strikeouts in 188.0 innings.
