AUSTIN, Texas - Rebel runners posted some of the best times in Ole Miss history on Thursday as the competition heated up at the 87th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
The 12th-ranked Ole Miss men were represented solely by newcomers in a couple of distance events on Thursday.
The Rebels' 4x800-meter relay squad of Will Spiers, Dameon Morgan, Holland Sherrer and Trevor Gilley finished in third place with a time of 7:28.58 that ranks them No. 5 in the school record books.
Freshman Robert Domanic was runner-up in section A of the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 3:53.20. His time was sixth-best among all collegians on Thursday.
On the women's side, senior Mary Ashton Nall had a strong final day in the heptathlon. Entering the day in 20th place out of 24 elite competitors, her performances in the long jump, javelin and especially the 800-meter finale, helped her move into 15th with a final tally of 5,034 points. Her time of 2:18.61 was sixth-best in the 800, while her long jump of 18-2.5 was also a season-best.
Closing the night in the 5,000 meters, sophomore Mary Alex England placed sixth in 17:15.02 and senior Kayleigh Skinner was eighth in 17:27.69 in the 20-woman race. England, running her first outdoor race for the Rebels, debuts at No. 6 in the 5K all-time at Ole Miss.
The Rebels will compete on day three of the Texas Relays on Friday. Events begin at 9:30 a.m. and run throughout the day.
