Harrison's Goals Give Rebels 2-0 Win
9/12/2014 | Soccer
Sept. 12, 2014 CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Junior forward Olivia Harrison continued to produce offensively, delivering both goals for Ole Miss (4-1-2) in a 2-0 victory on the road Friday night against Austin Peay (1-6-0).
Harrison delivered her two goals in a three-minute span with the first in the 39th minute and the second coming in the 42nd minute
"Whenever you win on the road it's certainly a good thing," said Ole Miss head coach Matthew Mott. "We weren't as sharp in front of the goal as I would have liked, but you have to credit Austin Peay for making it tough on us. Whenever you get a clean sheet and score some goals on the road, you'll take it and get on the bus and head home.
"Olivia Harrison gave us a real spark off the bench and finished a good goal and then got one on a nice setup from Bethany Bunker down the sideline," Mott said. "We have to get sharper for Sunday, but those two are really working well together."
Austin Peay got its best opportunity of the first half in the 21st minute with a shot off a counter attack, but it hit the near post and was gathered by the Rebels' McCormick to keep the home team off the board.
Ole Miss got on the board in the 39th minute when Harrison took the ball on the near side and dribbled toward the middle of the field, beating her defender to the center of the box to drive the ball into the net to put the Rebels up 1-0.
The Rebels found the net three minutes later when Bunker beat her defender on the far side and dribbled into the box before dumping the ball off to Harrison. Harrison again drilled the ball into the net for her second goal of the night that put Ole Miss on top 2-0.
The Rebels out-shot the Lady Governors 18-to-7 on the night, but were unable to find the net again as the Austin Peay defense came up with repeated stops down the stretch to keep the score at 2-0 for the final margin of victory.
Ole Miss will return to action on Sunday afternoon, hosting the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee at 5 p.m. in the program's annual "Kickin' Cancer" game. The Rebels will wear teal uniforms to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and the jerseys are being auctioned off online to help raise money in conjunction with Baptist Hospital North Mississippi.
Admission to all home soccer matches is free and the contest will be live streamed on the SEC Network + digital platform.
