Soccer's Ghoreishi Scores Goal to Lift Rebels Past Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Ava Ghoreishi scored her first goal as a Rebel as Ole Miss soccer secured a 1-0 victory against Charleston on Thursday night at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium.
Ole Miss improved to 3-0-0 under first-year head coach Todd Shulenberger, while Taylor Prigge and the Rebel defense posted their second shutout of the season. The Rebels held the Cougars (1-1-1) without a shot on goal and allowed just one total attempt.
Ole Miss created the first offensive opportunity of the match in the eighth minute as Isabelle Wright put an attempt on frame that was denied by Charleston's goalkeeper Ainsley Chunn before sending another shot wide moments later.
Isabella Pontieri added a pair of chances during the opening 28 minutes, while Audrey Shackelford and Becca Skinner each registered an attempt. Katie Ramsden forced Chunn into another save in the 37th minute before Maizy Kluksdal put a shot on goal before halftime.
The Rebels entered the break tied at zero despite holding a 10-0 advantage in shots and placing three on frame.
Ole Miss continued applying pressure after the break. Ghoreishi found the back of the net at the 51:19 mark following a saved attempt from Teaghan Irvin. The goal marked Ghoreishi's first goal at Ole Miss and gave the Rebels a 1-0 advantage.
Irvin generated two more opportunities over the next 12 minutes, sending one attempt wide before forcing Chunn into another save. Pontieri and Wright each placed shots on goal later in the half, but the Cougars' keeper kept the deficit at one.
Charleston recorded its lone attempt in the 81st minute, but the Rebel defense blocked the shot before it reached Prigge. Ole Miss held the Cougars without another opportunity over the final nine minutes to secure its third consecutive victory.
The Rebels finished with a 16-1 advantage in shots and placed eight attempts on goal. Ole Miss also earned six corner kicks compared with three for College of Charleston and held 52% of the possession. Prigge played all 90 minutes in goal, earning her third victory and second shutout of the season.
Ole Miss concludes its three-match road trip on Sunday against UAB in Birmingham, Alabama. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT, and the match will be available on ESPN+.
