9/20/2014 | Men's Golf
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Ole Miss men's golf team wrapped up play at the second annual DICK'S Collegiate Challenge Cup hosted by the Nashville Sports Council and The Golf Club of Tennessee Saturday.
Sophomore Ben Wolcott, who began the day 33rd place, fired an impressive 1-under par 70 in round three to tie for 18th place, marking his fifth top-20 finish of his Rebel career.
"Great job by the guys hanging in there after a tough start," head coach Chris Malloy said. "As I have said, this group of guys has tremendous heart. We will continue to work on cleaning up some silly mistakes. We are really looking forward to switching our focus to tomorrow and playing Clemson in match play. This will be fun to watch."
As a team, the Rebels finished in eighth place, moving up two spots from yesterday's 10th-place effort. No. 3 Georgia Tech claimed the tournament title, firing a three-round score of 4-under 848.
Senior Blake Morris fired a 1-over par 72 in the third round to move up eight spots and finish in a tie for 29th place. Sophomore Noah West tied for 39th place, with a three-round score of 224.
Senior Joe Lewis, who finished in a tie for 42nd place, posted a three-round score of 225, while junior Connor Davis finished in a tie for 51st place.
The Conference Challenge will take place on Sunday, with Ole Miss taking on Clemson. The challenge will consist of teams from the ACC playing 18-hole matches against their similarly ranked opponent from the SEC. The conference that accumulates the most points on Sunday will be crowned the 2014 Collegiate Challenge Cup Champion.
