PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Ole Miss Women's Tennis junior Mai El Kamash continued her great play this weekend, advancing to the qualifying tournament at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships, with a straight set win on Sunday in the final round of pre-qualifying.
El Kamash defeated Maeva Razakasoa of Long Beach State in two hotly-contested sets. El Kamash led the first 4-3, but then Razakasoa won two straight games to take a 5-4 lead. The set eventually went to a tiebreaker, which El Kamash won 8-6.
Razakasoa led 4-3 in the second set, but El Kamash won three straight games to take the set 6-4 and the match. With her three wins this weekend, El Kamash improved to 4-1 on the season.
"I am proud of Mai for battling a tough opponent and getting through to the qualifying tournament," associate head coach Jason Ontog said. "Sometimes it's difficult to play the day after two big wins but Mai was able to continue her momentum and beat another good player.
This marks the second year in a row for El Kamash to advance to the qualifying tournament. The qualifying draw will be announced Monday.
