Rebels Earn 11 Wins at FGCU Invite

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team continued play at the FGCU Invitational Friday, picking up 11 total wins in doubles and singles against Florida Gulf Coast University and Rice University.
The day began with doubles against FGCU and Rice. William Kallberg and Gustav Hansson won both their matches in Flight 1, defeating FGCU's Andres Alfonzo and Eduardo Alfonzo 6-4 and the following that up with a 7-6(2) win over Jamie Malik and Srikar Alla of Rice.
After dropping their Flight 1 match in a tiebreaker, Stefan Lindmark and Ricardo Jorge beat Max Andrews and David Warren of Rice, 6-3 in Flight 2.
Birthday boy Joe Rogers teamed up with freshman Zvonimir Babic for two wins on the day in Flight 2. In their first match, the duo bested Lucas Vaz and Ricky Ventura of FGCU, 6-3. Later they won a tiebreaker, 7-6(4), against FGCU's Michael Beiler and Austin Bates.
Following doubles, the Rebels came out and won five of six singles against Rice and one against TCU. Hansson and Kallberg both won their Flight 1 matches in straight sets, as did Babic and Vinod Gowda in Flight 2. Jorge won his match in three sets and then Zach Wilder took out TCU's Blake Wiggins in straight sets.
"We had a very productive day on the courts," head coach Toby Hansson said. "These matches will help us to get used to the new format as well as getting ready for the outdoor matches we have coming up towards the end of the month. We competed well across the board, and that is what it's all about."
The Rebels continue play Saturday with doubles against TCU at 9 a.m. CT, followed by singles against the Horned Frogs.
