Preseason Notebook: Rebels "Officially" Hit the Hardwood
10/14/2015 | Women's Basketball
Countdown To Tipoff
The Rebels are just 29 days away from opening the 2015-16 season. Ole Miss will host Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 13 at its 13th annual School Kids game at 11 am at the Tad Smith Coliseum.
Talkin' Bout Practice Y'all!
The Ole Miss women's basketball team opened official practice on Sunday Oct. 4. The practice was intense and spirited from both players and coaches and was held at the Rebels practice facility. Here are some words from coach Insell after the Rebel's first practice.
On his third opening practice as Ole Miss head coach …
"The biggest thing that is different is that the court is smaller and that speaks to our athleticism and length that we have on the court now. We look more like an SEC team from 1-13 than we have in the past. That makes the court shrink on them sometimes and they don't' see things, but they're going to start seeing that."
On today's practice …
"It was a great first day, probably the best we've had in our three years. This team has a lot of potential to be really special and we've got to continue to work each and everyday. We have 29 more practices before our first game. We have to keep working each day to improve on the little things. When they get those things we'll see big results from this group."

Square Jam 2015 A Success
The fourth annual Square Jam was held on the Oxford Square on Friday, Oct. 9. The Rebel men's and women's basketball teams and coaches were introduced and there was a combined skills contest and the evening concluded with the ever-popular dunk contest. Both teams were recognized on the football field during the Ole Miss football team's win over New Mexico State.
Welcome to the Family, Coach Spencer
Over the summer the Rebels welcomed Chad Spencer to the Ole Miss women's basketball family. Spencer, who serves in the role of video coordinator, comes to Ole Miss after serving as a high school basketball coach in Tennessee.
Rebels on TV
Ole Miss will make 12 appearances on television this season including its first appearance on ESPN2 since 2009-10 when they take on Mississippi State on Sunday, February 21. The Rebels will appear on the SEC Network 10 times during the regular season and will make an appearance on Fox Sports in the Insell vs. Insell showdown on Nov. 22 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
