Rebels Fall to Mizzou on the Road

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Ole Miss volleyball seemed to have momentum on its side after winning a close set two, but Missouri came out and took charge in the third set and went on to win the match 3-1 here at the Hearnes Center Friday night.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 16-5 overall and 2-4 in the SEC, while Missouri improved to 16-2 overall and 4-1 in the SEC.

The two teams traded points in the first set, but at 11-11, Mizzou went on a 4-0 run to take a 15-11 lead as Ole Miss called its first timeout. The Rebels never got closer than three the rest of the way, as the Tigers held on for 25-19.

Ole Miss started off set two with a 7-3 lead, but Mizzou answered to pull within one. Both teams would continue to battle back and forth. At 15-15, the Tigers used a 3-0 run to go up by three (18-15), forcing a timeout by Ole Miss. Trailing late 20-22, the Rebels went on a 5-1 run to close out Mizzou 25-23 and even the match.

Mizzou came out of the intermission and took a 7-2 lead in the third set but the Rebels used an 8-4 run to get within one, 11-10. Unfortunately, the Tigers won three straight points to go up 14-10. The Rebels never got any closer than three the rest of the way, falling 25-18 as Mizzou took a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Tigers broke open a early tie in the fourth set to go up 13-5 as Ole Miss called timeout. The Rebels pulled to within four, 20-16, but Mizzou won five straight points to close out the set and the match.

• The Rebels hit .173 to Mizzou's .324
• Senior Nakeyta Clair finished with 16 kills on a .519 clip. It marks the 17th match in 21 for her to hit above .400. Clair also had four blocks and now needs just five to break the school record for total blocks (383) held by Regina Thomas.
• Junior Aubrey Edie posted her sixth double-double of the season with 37 assists and 10 digs.
• Senior Ty Laporte added 11 kills and hit .320. It marks the 17th time in 21 matches for her to hit .300.
• Sophomore Lexi Thompson added 10 kills.
• The Rebels, who lead the league in service aces, had six, including two by freshman Taylor Gill.
• Junior Kristen Brashear, who ranks among the conference leaders in digs and aces, finished with 17 digs and two service aces.
• Ole Miss and Missouri will meet again on Nov. 22 in Oxford at 1:30 p.m.

The Rebels travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas next to face the Razorbacks Sunday at 4 p.m., on the SEC Network.
