Rebels Wrap Up Play at U.S. Collegiate

ATLANTA, Ga. - Freshman Braden Thornberry carded an even-par 72 Sunday, as the Ole Miss men's golf team wrapped up play at the U.S. Collegiate Championship.
Thornberry carded a birdie on the final hole of the day, the 540-yard, par 5 hole No. 9 to finish the day at even-par. His final score would check in at 5-over 221, and would place him tied for 38th.
The Rebels posted a team score of 895 en route to a 15th place finish at the Golf Club of Georgia golf course. Auburn and Wake Forrest tied for the tournament title with a team score of 855.
Junior Noah West fired a 4-over 76 in the final round to post a three-day total of 4-over 220 for the weekend. West carded eight birdies in on the weekend, including two birdies in the final round, to finish tied for 32nd individually.
"Noah showed a lot of guts this week as he fought through a stomach virus the last two days," said Ole Miss Head Coach Chris Malloy. "For him to even finish his last two rounds, let alone play well, tells you a lot about his desire to be great."
Senior Forrest Gamble posted a 3-over 75 in the final round, including a birdie on the 403-yard, par 4 No. 5. The Vestavia Hills, Ala. native finished in tied for 68th with a total score of 228.
Fellow Rebel Ben Wolcott fired a 5-over 77 in the third round to finish tied for 79th on the weekend. Freshman Beau Briggs posted a final score of 234 and finished tied for 87th.
"We played a lot better coming down the stretch today," said Malloy. "The guys really fought hard through the rough conditions this morning and gave themselves a chance in the back nine. We have many positives to build on as we now prepare for our final event of the fall n Hawaii."
