Rebels Top South Carolina 3-1

OXFORD, Miss. - Both Ole Miss and South Carolina came into Friday's match in search of their first SEC win, and the Rebels triumphed 3-1, paced by four players in double-digit kills at the Gillom Sports Center.
The Rebels improved to 15-3 overall and 1-2 in the SEC, while South Carolina dropped to 7-9 and 0-3 in league play.
South Carolina led 11-6 in the first set, when Ole Miss called its first timeout. The Gamecocks later led 17-11, but the Rebels went on a 14-6 run to close out the comeback 25-23. In the second set, the Rebels erased a 6-6 tie with a 7-1 run to go up 13-7. They maintained control the rest of the way winning it 25-19 to head into intermission up 2-0.
Coming out of the break, South Carolina took the third set 25-17. Both teams traded points in the early going of the fourth set, but at 13-13, the Rebels went on an 11-5 run to garner six match points, 24-18. The Gamecocks would not go away without a fight, erasing five match points (24-23), before senior Nakeyta Clair put down her 13th kill of the night for the win.

รขโฌยข Senior Nakeyta Clair had two block solos to go with her 13 kills, and in the process, set the school record for block solos (81) previously held by Regina Thomas (80, 2008-11). Clair, who ranked first in the SEC in hitting percentage coming into the night, hit .391.
รขโฌยข Sophomore Lexi Thompson recorded a double-double with 13 kills on a .375 clip and 12 digs. She also had two service aces.
รขโฌยข Senior Ty Laporte finished with 13 kills on a .500 percentage and had three blocks.
รขโฌยข Junior Aubrey Edie finished the match with 45 assists, seven digs and two service aces.
รขโฌยข Junior Kristen Brashear continued her strong play as of late, with 15 digs.
Ole Miss returns to action Sunday at Texas A&M in a nationally-televised match on the SEC Network. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
