PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team concluded its stay in California bowing out of the singles and doubles qualifying tournament of the Riviera ITA All-American Championships Tuesday at the Riviera Country Club.
In the morning, senior Mai El Kamash and sophomore Natalie Suk dropped their first round match to Florida State's Daneika Borthwick and Yukako Noi 8-3.
Sophomore Arianne Hartono, ranked No. 44 in the nation, split the day, winning her first round match in the afternoon, before losing a tough second round match in the evening.
In her first round match, Hartono took out 88th-ranked Marianne Gould of Georgia 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Hartono jumped out to a 3-0 lead against 33rd-ranked Denise Starr of California in her second round match and eventually had multiple set points, before Starr rallied to take it in a tiebreaker, 7-6(5). With momentum now on Starr's side, she jumped out to a big lead in the second and won 6-1.
The Rebels will be back in action Oct. 15-19 at the ITA Southern Regionals in Auburn, Alabama.
