OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss volleyball added to an outstanding 2016 class with three-time state champion defensive specialist Nicole Purcell (Leawood, Kansas), head coach Steven McRoberts announced Saturday.
Purcell recently wrapped up helping Bishop Miege High School to its third consecutive Kansas 4A State Championship and 24th overall. Bishop Miege finished the season 32-11.
"Nicole is good on serve receive, and she's great at reading and anticipating the defense," McRoberts said. "When you watch Nicole play you can see her hustle and her spirit. She's another freshman coming in that's going to push for playing time."
As a four-year varsity starter, Purcell was named to the All-State Tournament Team in 2013, 2014 and 2015. She was named All-State Honorable Mention in 2013 and to the second team in 2014. Purcell earned All-Conference honors and was selected to play on the Kansas All-Star Team.
Purcell finished with 287 kills and hit .327 in 2015. She also posted 285 digs and 80 aces.
In preseason, Purcell was named to the Prep Volleyball Defensive Dandies and to the Under Armour Watch List.
Purcell plays club for Kansas City Power along with fellow signee Emily Engelken. She was selected to the USAV High Performance Team A1-A2 in 2013 and this past summer, helped lead KC Power to a fifth place finish at the USAV Junior National Open.
