Rebels Tee Off in Hawaii

PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii -- Junior Ben Wolcott fired an even-par 72 Monday to lead Ole Miss in the opening round of the Warrior Princeville Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii.
The Dickson, Tennessee native posted two birdies and just two bogeys at the 7,223-yard Makai Golf Club and finished day one in a tie for 25th overall. Freshman Braden Thornberry and sophomore Noah West each carded a 1-over par 73 and finished the day in a tie for 33rd overall. The Rebels sit in a ninth place in the team standings after day one with a team total of 293, while Wake Forest leads with a first-day total of 278.
"We got off to a great start, but then really played some poor golf in the middle part of our round today," said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. "We got away from our game plan and really cost ourselves. We are still waiting for someone to emerge as a leader of this team, and I believe that the next two days will go a long way in identifying him. I know this group is eager to get back out on the course tomorrow and claw their way back into contention."
Senior Connor Davis posted four birdies in the opening round en route to a 3-over 75, while fellow senior Forrest Gamble finished the day with a 4-over 76. Davis sits in a tie for 51st after the first day and Gamble is tied for 61st. Freshman Beau Briggs, competing as an individual, turned in an 85 in the first round.
