Rebels Ready for NCAA Qualifier
2/20/2015 | Rifle
OXFORD, Miss. - With winter weather wreaking havoc across the country, including the South, the Ole Miss rifle team will travel to Jacksonville Ala., for a second straight weekend, to compete in the NCAA Qualifier. The Rebels were originally scheduled to compete at the NCAA Qualifier in Lexington, Kentucky.
This weekend's score posted at the qualifier will represent 50 percent of the score considered for teams that qualify for NCAAs. The score at the qualifier will be averaged with their three highest scores of the year to determine who is selected to the NCAA Championships. Only the top eight overall scores will advance to the NCAA Championships. The Rebels have had an individual representative in the NCAAs three straight years.
"This team knows that this is crunch time and the only opportunity for some to see postseason play," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "They are as ready as they can be. Now it's all on each to finish what they started."
Sophomore Alison Weisz and freshman Jessica Haig have led the Rebels this season and present the best chance to qualify for the NCAAs as individuals. Weisz leads in smallbore with an average of 572, while both she and Haig are averaging 585 in air rifle. Last weekend, Haig shot a career-best 591 in air rifle against Navy and then followed up with a PR (573) in smallbore at Jacksonville State.
