Ole Miss Travels to Vanderbilt

Game Notes- at Vanderbilt - Game 23
Ole Miss hits the road for its lone contest of the week when it travels to Nashville, Tenn., to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores on Thursday. Tipoff will be at 7 pm at Memorial Gym and will be broadcast on SECN+ with Kevin Ingram and Caroline Hipps on the call. Erika Sisk and Shandricka Sessom led the Rebels against South Carolina as each recorded a team-best 12 points. Sisk was in double-figures for the 11th time this season and first time in the previous two games, while Sessom posted her second career game and first double-digit outing in SEC action. |
3. Tia Faleru posted a game-high 13 rebounds against the Gamecocks. It was her 11th game of double-figure rebounds and the second time she's reached double figures in the last three games. Faleru is currently leading the SEC in rebounds with 10.5 per game.
4. Tia Faleru is approaching her 800th rebound and is just 42 rebounds shy of the milestone. Should she reach the milestone this season she will become one of seven players in program history with 1000 career points and 800 career rebounds and will become the first to do it since Armintie Price in 2006-07.
5. Ole Miss is in search of its second SEC road win this season. Ole Miss is 1-3 in road SEC games and is looking for more than two road wins for the first time since the 2006-07 season. Over the last six seasons Ole Miss has a combined eight SEC road wins. This season Ole Miss snapped a 14-game SEC road-losing streak with a win at Florida.
Ole Miss vs. Vanderbilt Notables
-This will be the 44th meeting between Ole Miss and Vanderbilt with the Commodores holding a 28-15 advantage and having won the last five meetings between the teams. The Rebels are looking for their first win over Vanderbilt since a 72-67 win in 2010-11. Ole Miss last won in Nashville back during the 1984-85 season.
-Longtime Vanderbilt assistant Kim Rosamond is very familiar with Ole Miss as she played for the Rebels from 1995-98 leading Ole Miss to two NCAA Tournament appearances. Additionally, Rosamond served as an assistant coach at Ole Miss for five years and recruited Ole Miss great, Armintie Price.
-Vanderbilt has one Mississippi native in Christa Reed who hails from Bay St. Louis and Ole Miss has a Tennessee native in Kelsey Briggs who is from nearby Memphis, Tenn.
A Win Would...
-Move Ole Miss to 15-8, 5-5 SEC and snap Vanderbilt's five-game win streak in the series. Ole Miss would also pick up its fourth ever win in Nashville and the first since the 1984-85 season - none of the current players were born yet and head coach Matt Insell was just two years old.
Rebels By The Numbers
1-Number of SEC road wins Ole Miss has entering Thursday's game at Vanderbilt. Ole Miss is seeking more than two SEC road wins for the first time since 2006-07. Should Ole Miss win another road game it would be the most since the 2010-11 season when Ole Miss also had two road wins.
4-Number of consecutive games Ole Miss has dropped after opening the SEC slate 4-1. The 4-1 start was the best start since a 5-1 start in 2009-10. Ole Miss is seeking a winning SEC record for the first time since 2006-07.
8-Number of three-pointers from Gracie Frizzell against Alabama on Jan. 11. The Little Rock, Arkansas native set a new Ole Miss single-game record and Tad Smith record. Her eight triples are the most in the SEC this season.
14- Number of wins the Ole Miss team currently has. Ole Miss hasn't posted more than 12 wins since the 2009-10 season and is in search of its first winning record since going 17-15 in 2009-10. Ole Miss' last 20-win season was in 2006-07 when the Rebels went 24-11 and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.
42-Number of rebounds Tia Faleru needs for her 800th rebound. She will become one of seven players with 1,000 points and 800 rebounds. She also picked up her 150th steal against South Carolina and once she reaches 800 rebounds will be one of four players with 1,000 points, 800 rebounds and 150 steals and the first since Armintie Price (2003-07).
Scouting Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt enters Thursday's game with a 12-10, 3-6 SEC record after a 67-58 loss to Florida on Sunday. The loss was the second straight for the Commodores and the third in their last five outings. Rebekkah Dahlman is leading the Commodores with 10.0 points per game and is the lone player in double figures. Morgan Batey and Heather Bowe are contributing 8.8 and 8.7 points per game, respectively. Batey leads the rebounding efforts with 5.5 rebounds per game while A. Caron Gondreau and Marqu'es Webb are averaging 4.9 and 4.8 rebounds per game. In SEC action, the Commodores are averaging 55.2 points while opponents are averaging 62.6 points per game.
About Ole Miss
Senior forward Tia Faleru continues to lead Ole Miss with 14.6 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game. Faleru has scored in double figures in 18 of Ole Miss' 22 games and has grabbed eight or more rebounds in 19 of Ole Miss' 22 games, with and SEC-best eight double-doubles on the season. Faleru is the lone player in double figures, but Erika Sisk is nearing double figures with 9.4 points per game while Ole Miss has six players averaging 6.0 points or better. Danielle McCray and A'Queen Hayes are helping Faleru shoulder the rebounding load averaging 4.7 and 4.3 rebounds per game, respectively. In SEC action, Faleru leads the way with 12.0 points, while Erika Sisk is averaging 10.0 points. A'Queen Hayes is also netting 7.9 points per game against SEC foes.

Ole Miss will take the weekend off before coming home to host Tennessee on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on SECN+ with Richard Cross and Armintie Herrington on the call.
