Rebels Complete Round Two of Clover Cup

MESA, Ariz. - The Ole Miss women's golf team completed the second round of the Notre Dame Clover Cup Saturday at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
Leading the charge for the Ole Miss team total was junior Alison Hovatter (Meridianville, Ala.) who fired a 7-over par 79, backed by an even par front nine. Her solid front nine performance was helped by three birdies and four pars.
After a total team score of 319 on the round and a total of 637 on the tournament, Ole Miss is in 14th place in the team standings. Head Coach Michele Drinkard cites trouble off the tee as something the Rebels need to work on.
"They are having trouble keeping their ball in play off the tee and the results are big numbers," Drinkard said. "It's hard to score when you are playing from the dessert."
The Rebels have three individuals competing in the tournament, including senior Stani Schiavone (Bangor, Pa.) who fired an even par 72 to lead all Ole Miss players on Saturday.
"It was great to see Stani bounce back with a solid round of 72 today," Drinkard said. "We need her back in the lineup. She looked like the confident Stani of old."
After starting on the 10th hole, Schiavone posted 35 on her scorecard for the back nine putting her at 1-under par at the turn. Schiavone had three bogeys on the front, but rolled in two more birdies to finish out even for the day.
"I had good focus on the course today and had some putts fall at important points during the round," Schiavone said.
In individual standings, Kaitlin Voll (Alpharetta, Ga.) is tied for 14th place after a 6-over par 78 second day. Behind Voll is sophomore Madisen Bentley (University Place, Wash.) who sits tied for 24th after a 5-over par 77 Saturday.
Coach Drinkard is eager to get back out on the course for the final round tomorrow to build some momentum going into next week's Samford Intercollegiate in Hoover.
"Tomorrow is a new day and they need to believe in themselves and trust in what they're doing," Drinkard said. "A good start tomorrow will go a long way in building up their confidence."
The final round of the Notre Dame Clover Cup will begin in a shotgun start format at 8:00 a.m. PT. Fans can find live scoring and the full leaderboard here.
