Rebels Fall To ULM In Midweek Tilt

OXFORD, Miss. - The Rebel pitching staff couldn't hold down a surging Warhawk offense early and the early deficit proved to be too much to overcome as Ole Miss (15-12) fell to Louisiana-Monroe (19-7) by a score of 9-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman first baseman Alex Schneider provided the lone run for the Rebels on the afternoon, hitting her fifth home run of the season to get Ole Miss on the board in the second inning.

Madi Osias (2-7) suffered the loss for the Rebels, allowing six runs on one hit with a pair of walks in the start.

Melanie Coyne (6-3) picked up the win for the Warhawks, holding Ole Miss to one run on five hits with a walk in her 5.0 innings of work.

Louisiana-Monroe jumped out of the gates offensively, pushing eight runs across the plate in the first inning with the benefit of only one hit. The Warhawks used three hit batters and two walks as a part of the big inning and held the 8-0 lead after the first inning of play.

Ole Miss got on the board in the second inning with the Schneider home run, but the Warhawks got the run back in the third with a single run in the frame to take the lead back out to eight runs.

The Rebels couldn't close the gap from there despite holding the visitors off the board the rest of the way in the loss.

Ole Miss will return to action this weekend, hosting in-state rival Mississippi State in a three-game series. Friday's series-opener is set for a 6 p.m. start at the Ole Miss Softball Complex, while Saturday's game will begin at noon and the finale on Sunday is set for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
