Seiple Leads Rebels on Day One at Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. - Freshman Josh Seiple fired a 2-under par 70 to lead Ole Miss on day one at the Schenkel Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern.
Seiple, a freshman from Castle Rock, Colorado, carded six birdies at the 6,962-yard Forest Heights Country Club. He closed strong, posting four birdies in his final nine holes to finish in a tie for 17th after the first day.
Senior Joe Lewis, who is competing as an individual, finished the day tied with Seiple at a 2-under with a 70. Lewis carded four birdies on the day en route to the under par score. The Rebels finished the first day in 13th place, while Vanderbilt is atop the team leaderboard after day one with a team score of 273.
"It was certainly a disappointing day for our team," said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. "Josh (Seiple) was our only guy under par and that just doesn't cut it in a field like this. The good news is that we have five guys that are not too far off. We have 36 holes left and I expect that these guys will play much better."
Sophomore Ben Wolcott fired three birdies en route to an even par 72 and is finished the day tied for 49th. Fellow sophomore Forrest Gamble carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for 62nd place 0heading into tomorrow's second round. Senior Blake Morris and junior Connor Davis finished the day tied for 69th with a 3-over par 75.
