HOOVER, Ala.-- The Ole Miss women's golf team wrapped up play in Alabama at the Samford Intercollegiate in exciting fashion on Tuesday by claiming both the team and individual tournament titles.

Ole Miss cruised to the team victory after posting a final round 297 on the day to bring their two-day total to 907 for the tournament.

"It feels great to win," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "I am so proud of the team, and their commitment to this spring. They have worked so hard and it's the best feeling to see them put it together and win today."

Senior Stani Schiavone (Bangor, Pa.) led the way for not only the Rebels, but also the entire field, firing a career best 7-under par 65 in the final round to take medalist honors.

"It was an amazing feeling to get my first win in college golf and especially with a team win at this tournament," Schiavone said. "There are a lot of positives to be taken from this event and hopefully we can continue to gain momentum as we head to our home tournament."

Tuesday was Schiavone's first collegiate victory and the third top-five finish of her career. She joins junior Abby Newton (Katy, Texas) as the only other Rebel to win a tournament this season, as Newton won the Memphis Intercollegiate in the fall.

"Stani played lights out today rolling in eight birdies," Drinkard said. "My favorite quote today from here was on the ninth when said said `Coach let's see how low I can take this today!', and I said let's take it deep which she did."

Joining Schiavone at the top of the leaderboard was junior Alison Hovatter (Meridianville, Ala.) who finished as runner-up after firing a solid 4-over par 76 on Tuesday.

"Alison had a great tournament on a familiar course and had her personal best finish taking runner-up honors," Drinkard said. "In usual fashion, she told me she learned a lot this week, which was music to my ears! I love how passionate she is and she wants to continue to improve and reach the next level."

Ole Miss plays next April 3-5 when they host the 2015 Rebel Intercollegiate at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
