Box Score

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss (18-13) carried its win streak to three straight games and closed out a 10-game home stand on Wednesday night with a 7-2 win over Mississippi Valley State (7-24) at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.

Alex Schneider hit her seventh home run of the season while Alyssa Invergo drove in three runs and Elantra Cox scored three runs on the way to the victory.

Lauren Lindsey (5-4) picked up the win, allowing two runs on six hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. Kayla Landwehrmier then picked up her first save of the season, working the final 3.0 innings and allowing only three hits with two strikeouts.

Rebekah Clinton (2-2) took the loss for the Delta Devilettes, allowing one run on three hits with a strikeout in 2.0 innings of work.

"It's nice to be able to go into a weekend series in the SEC with a win," Ole Miss head coach Mike Smith said. "It's nice to have been able to be at home for a while. Lauren (Lindsey) did a good job in the start and Kayla (Landwehrmier) shut the door for us. We've been swinging the bats well lately and we look forward to continuing that into SEC play this weekend."

Ole Miss got on the board in the first inning when Elantra Cox came home on a groundout to second from Miranda Strother. Cox reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error on the play. She then took third on a dropped third strike to Paige McKinney before coming home on the Strother groundout to put the Rebels on top 1-0.

The Rebels took the lead out to four runs in the third inning. Alyssa Invergo delivered an RBI triple and scored on a groundout from Strother before Alex Schneider hit her seventh home run of the season - a solo shot that capped the scoring in the inning.

The Delta Devilettes got on the board in the fourth inning, pushing two runs across the plate to cut the lead in half at 4-2.

It was a short-lived lead, however, as the Rebels got three runs back in the home half of the fourth. Allison Brown opened the inning with a walk and got to second on a single to right. Cox then lay down a bunt single back to the pitcher and beat the throw to the bag. Brown used heads up base running to score on the play as Mississippi Valley State argued for the out call at first. Majam went to third on the play.

Cox then stole second before Invergo drove a sac fly to the wall in center field, bringing in two runs on the play as the speedy Cox never slowed on the way from second and slid in under the tag at home to put the Rebels up 7-2.

Landwehrmier and the Rebels would hold the visiting Delta Devilettes off the board the rest of the way to pick up the win.

Ole Miss will continue play on the road this weekend, traveling to face Arkansas in a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday night, and continuing with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday and Sunday.
