4/18/2015 | Men's Golf
ST. SIMMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Junior Forrest Gamble fired a career low 4-under par 66 Saturday as Ole Miss made a move on day two at the SEC Championships at the Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simmons Island, Georgia.
Gamble carded five birdies against just one bogey on the 7,005 yard, par-70 course that has hosted the SEC Championships every year since 2001. Â He bested his previous career-low round of 67 as a freshman and moved into a tie for 11th on the leaderboard at 3-under par after his 1-over 71 in the opening round yesterday. Ole Miss also jumped up four spots on the team leaderboard into ninth place at 6-over par heading tomorrow's third and final round.
"Our guys really showed a lot of heart today to bounce back the way that they did," said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. "I am really proud and look forward to an even better day tomorrow. For Forrest to have a career low in our conference championship is pretty special. I think that he is starting to believe in himself and that will be key to his future success. "
Senior Blake Morris bounced back from a 3-over 73 in the first round with an even-par 70 Saturday and is tied for 39th at 3-over. Sophomore Ben Wolcott turned in a 1-over 71 and is tied for 33rd at 2-over par after his 1-over Friday. Freshman Josh Seiple also turned in a 1-over par 71 Saturday and is tied for 45th at 4-over. Sophomore Noah West is tied for 67th after posting a 77 on Saturday.
