Rebels Earn All-SEC Honors

OXFORD, Miss. -- Senior Julia Jones and freshman Arianne Hartono have helped the Rebels rank inside the top 25 all season, and Wednesday they were recognized for their efforts, earning All-SEC honors, as the league office announced the postseason awards.
Jones (St. Petersburg, Fla.) earned first team honors, while Hartono (Meppel, Netherlands) made the All-Freshman Team. Jones is the first Rebel to make the first team since two-time All-American Kristi Boxx made it all four years of her career (2009-12).
This marks the third time for Jones to be recognized by the conference office, as she was named to the All-Freshman Team in 2012 and the All-SEC Second Team in 2014. Jones is presently ranked No. 9 in the nation in singles and this year became the seventh player in program history to record 100 wins in a career. She owns a 28-9 overall record, 18-6 at No. 1 singles and finished 8-4 in the SEC.
"Julia had a phenomenal year," head coach Mark Beyers said. "She proved she was one of the top players in the SEC and in the nation. To be named first team All-SEC is extremely prestigious. This league is so tough with so many good players."
Hartono owns an 18-9 overall record, 9-5 at No. 2 singles. She went 5-3 in the SEC before being sidelined for the final six regular season matches and the SEC Tournament, with an injury. Hartono is ranked No. 80 in singles.
"Arianne was on her way to a spectacular season when the injury bug struck," Beyers said. "To play the No. 2 spot your freshman year and have the type of success she had, is something you don't see often. The fact that the other SEC coaches voted her on the All-Freshman Team even though she only played part of the season, is telling. I believe Arianne is going to have an amazing career at Ole Miss and garner all kinds of honors."
The Rebels, who have had at least one member of the squad named to the All-SEC team every under Coach Beyers, are expected to receive their seventh consecutive and 18th overall NCAA bid. Â
The NCAA selections will be announced Tuesday, April 28 at 4 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
