Saturday continues with the Breast Cancer Awareness game on Saturday along with free crawfish in the outfield. Sunday closes the series with Senior Day as the Rebels honor the three members of the senior class - Allison Brown, Lauren Lindsey and Jamie Morgan.
REBELS SETTING MARKS OFFENSIVELY
The Rebels are 47 games into the first season of competition under head coach Mike Smith and are already turning in some of the best offensive marks in program history. The marked improvement has already translated into success for the Rebels and several other marks are in striking distance as the season winds down.
· Through 47 games, the Rebels have stolen 81 bases successfully after only attempting 60 steals in 2014. The
81 steals is the most in a single season in program history.
· Ole Miss has hit 41 home runs this season, also setting a new mark for home runs in program history.
· The Rebels have also hit a school record 13 triples this season, besting the previous mark of 11 triples.
· Ole Miss set new marks for runs scored (268) and RBI (241) in the doubleheader win over Alcorn State.
· The Rebels have tied the mark for walks in a season with 150 and are in striking distance of the current mark of
doubles in a season (62) and hits (396) this season to completely rewrite the record books.
COX, SCHNEIDER, STROTHER SET TONE FOR REBEL OFFENSE
A trio of young players set the tone for the Rebel offense at the top of the order with freshman OF Elantra Cox setting the table in the leadoff spot and sophomore OF Miranda Strother driving in runs in the three-spot of the offensive lineup. Schneider rounds things out in the cleanup spot.
· Cox sets the table and puts pressure on the basepath for the Rebels, ranking among team leaders in batting
average (.374) and ranking second in the SEC in steals (27-of-33) to lead the Rebels. She has scored 32
runs - second on the team in runs scored this season.
· Strother ranks 12th in the SEC in batting average, hitting at a .397 clip. She is tops on the team in RBI with 32
and third in runs scored with 31.
· Schneider leads the team with eight home runs, has scored 35 runs for second on the team this season and
has drawn a team-high 22 walks through 47 games this season.
MULTIPLE-HIT, MULTIPLE-RBI GAMES
Several Rebels have multiple-hit games this season, but the duo of Miranda Strother and Elantra Cox pace the squad with each turning in double digit multiple-hit performances this season. Strother leads the way with 15 multiple-hit games, while Cox has 14. All told, 16 different Rebels have tallied multiple-hit games on the season.
Those multiple-hit games have sometimes translated into multiple-RBI games, but there hasn't always been a correlation. Strother leads the squad in multiple-RBI games with 11, while junior OF/DP Bri Payne has eight while senior 3B Allison Brown has seven. Junior DP Natalie Martinez have five games of multiple-RBI. In all, 14 Rebels have tallied multiple-RBI games on the season.
REBELS ENTERING RARE WIN TERRITORY
When the Rebels defeated the Alcorn State Lady Braves this past week, Ole Miss picked up its 28th win of the season. It marks only the third time in school history the Rebels have hit the 28-win mark and is the third most wins in program history.
· With 28 wins, Ole Miss passed the mark of 26 set in the 2008 and 1998 seasons for third most in history.
· The Rebels posted 29 wins in the 2010 season, marking the second most wins in school history.
· Ole Miss posted its first winning season in 2005, hitting the 30-win mark for the only time as a program.
OSIAS NAMED SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Junior RHP Madi Osias became the second player to earn weekly honors for the Rebels this year when she was named SEC Pitcher of the Week on April 20. Osias helped the Rebels to an undefeated week, posting wins over Southern Miss in a doubleheader and a win over Louisville in a rain-shortened weekend series. Osias went 3-0 on the week with two starts and a relief win, tallying a 0.82 ERA. She pitched a complete-game shutout of Southern Miss before coming back in game two with 5.0 scoreless innings to complete the sweep in a relief win. She then retired 10 straight batters in the start against Louisville and allowed only two runs on three hits in the win. Osias marks the seventh Pitcher of the Week selection in program history.
BROWN NAMED SEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior 3B Allison Brown was named the SEC Player of the Week by the conference office following the Rebels' series sweep of Arkansas, giving Ole Miss a weekly honoree for the first time in the 2015 season. Brown hit .778 against the Razorbacks and .727 on the week as the Rebels went 4-0. She hit a three-run home run to put the Rebels in front of Arkansas in game one on the way to the win and drove in the game-tying run in the sixth inning of game two to force an extra-inning game. She then reached base with a walk to represent the go-ahead run in the eighth inning of the series-clinching win. She posted an .800 on base percentage with three walks, an HBP and did not strike out on the week. She is only the fourth SEC Player of the Week selection in the program history.
