Crow Selected to U.S. Collegiate National Team

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss volleyball sophomore outside hitter Melanie Crow has been selected to train and compete with the U.S. Collegiate National Team program, USA Volleyball announced.
Crow (Wildwood, Missouri) is among 36 athletes (nine outside hitters) selected by USA Volleyball to participate in the U.S. Collegiate National Team (CNT) program that will train and compete in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships from June 21-29 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
"Our whole coaching staff is very proud of Mel and the hard work that she has put in over the past year," head coach Steven McRoberts said. "She is improving daily and she deserves this opportunity. I am excited to see her compete this summer."
Athletes participating on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team were selected from the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held Feb. 20-22 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Crow was one of more than 200 athletes from colleges and universities to participate in the tryouts.
The program will begin with a training session before the group is divided into three equal teams. The teams will then compete in a round-robin event the final three days in New Orleans.
A key player in the Rebels success in 2014, Crow started all 32 matches and finished with the second most kills in a season (352). She set the single season record for aces (42) and ranked third in the SEC at 0.36 aces per set.
Crow is the second straight Rebel under Coach McRoberts to make the Collegiate National Team. Setter Aubrey Edie made the team in 2014.
"It's going to be a huge experience for her and I hope it gives her the confidence to see that she can be as good as anybody in this league as an outside hitter," McRoberts added. "It will be a lot of fun for her, getting to compete with the best players for a couple of weeks, and she will be coached by a lot of great coaches there. It's going to be a great experience and one where she can bring back things to the team, much like Aubrey did last year."
