Where Are They Now: Valencia McFarland

This summer the Ole Miss women's basketball team will be taking a look at some of the noticeable names from seasons past and seeing what they're up to now. Today we'll check in on one of Ole Miss' greats and overseas pro, Valencia McFarland

She may have been little, but most Ole Miss fans will remember Valencia McFarland as the little engine that could. A 5-4 point guard, McFarland concluded her Ole Miss career with 1,651 career points and as one of Ole Miss' fan favorites.

McFarland was special out of the gates averaging 13.3 points as a freshman, the most points for a freshman since former Ole Miss great Armintie Price averaged 14.9 as a rookie in 2003-04. McFarland was a two-time C Spire Gillom Trophy nominee and became just the 14th player in program history to reach 1,000 points as a junior.

At the conclusion of her career at Ole Miss, McFarland spent some time in the Seattle Storm training camp, seeing some time in a preseason game before ultimately taking her game overseas to the Euroleague for the 2014-15 season. The Raymond, Mississippi native played for CSU Alba Luila in Romania in what's widely regarded as the best women's basketball league in the world and is home to WNBA stars Candace Parker, Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird as well as numerous elite players from around the globe.

In her first season with Alba Luila McFarland started at point guard and averaged 8.8 points per game to go along with 4.5 assists per game while grabbing 3.6 rebounds per game. McFarland led her squad to fourth place in their league with a 20-6 record. McFarland had one game of 25 points and dished out a career-best 12 assists and recorded two double-doubles on the year.

McFarland, who is back in the States for the summer, spent some time back in Oxford recently working as a camp counselor during the annual Ole Miss women's basketball day camp in early June.
