OXFORD, Miss. - More good news for the Ole Miss men's tennis team Thursday, as the Rebels earned the ITA All-Academic Team Award for the fifth consecutive year, in an announcement by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The Rebels are one of only six schools in Division I and the only one from the SEC to finish ranked inside the top 20 (No. 17) and earn the ITA All-Academic Team Award.
This award honors teams with outstanding academic achievements, requiring a minimum overall 3.2 grade point average to be considered. The Rebels posted a 3.40 GPA for the 2014-15 year.
In addition, six Rebels were named ITA Scholar-Athletes Thursday. The Rebels have had at least one player named an ITA Scholar-Athlete 14 straight years.
"We are extremely proud of the team for achieving a high level of success on and off the court," head coach Toby Hansson said. "They are committed to being one of the best teams in the country and great students. We are thankful to have outstanding leadership from the chancellor, to our athletics director, to all the academic support staff, who provide the student-athletes everything they need to be successful."
William Kallberg and Ricardo Jorge earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the second time.
First time honorees include freshmen Zvonimir Babic, Grey Hamilton and Gustav Hansson and recent graduate Nik Scholtz. In fact, Scholtz is one of just seven Division I players to earn All-America and ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.
To be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the year.
All six players helped lead the Rebels to their 22nd consecutive NCAA appearance and a top four finish in the SEC, as well as the final ranking of No. 17 in the nation.
