Mossberg Returns to Alma Mater

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Athletics Foundation has announced the hiring of Matt Mossberg as a new Associate Athletics Director for Development. After spending three years at the University at Buffalo, including one as Assistant AD for Development/Major Gifts, Mossberg returns to his alma mater and will begin his second stint working for the Ole Miss Athletics Foundation.
"We are excited to welcome Matt Mossberg back to Ole Miss," said Keith Carter, Senior Associate A.D. for Development/Athletics Foundation Executive Director. "Matt was instrumental in starting our Forward Together campaign back in 2011, and we are happy he has returned as we near our goal of $150 million."
"Cheryl and I are blessed for the opportunity to bring our family back to Oxford," said Mossberg. "Over the years, I have witnessed the momentum continue to build in the Forward Together Campaign and on campus. I am thrilled to re-join this talented team and connect with the passionate Ole Miss family."
While at UB, Mossberg served as Director of Development for Major Gifts before being promoted to Assistant AD for Development/Gifts this past year. In that role, Mossberg directed UB's Major Gifts team and served as a member of the athletic department's senior staff.
A native of Costa Mesa, California, Mossberg spent over a decade at Ole Miss prior to making the move to Buffalo. He started as a student-athlete, playing baseball for the Rebels from 2000-03 before becoming an assistant coach for the team. After five seasons as an assistant coach, Mossberg made the transition to Major Gifts Officer of the Ole Miss Athletics Foundation where he brought in several major donations as part of the Forward Together campaign.
During his time on the diamond as an assistant coach, Mossberg was an integral part of the success of the Rebels which garnered several NCAA berths resulting in two regionals, two super regionals and a 2009 SEC Championship.
A four-year letter winner for the Rebels, Mossberg also helped lead the Rebels to two postseason appearances in the 2001 NCAA Regional at Tulane and the 2003 NCAA Regional at Rice. The center fielder was known for his defense, but also hit .306 for his career with 24 RBI and notched 24 steals in his career.
After earning his B.S. degree in Exercise Science from Ole Miss in 2003, Mossberg completed a M.A. in Sports Management from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa in 2008.
Mossberg is married to the former Cheryl Wilson of Birmingham, Alabama, who played volleyball for Ole Miss from 2000-02. The couple has three sons: Jack, Pete and Roy.
Mossberg replaced Mónica Lebrón, who is now the Associate Athletics Director for Development at the University of Georgia. Director of Development Evin Beck also transitioned to pursue a new opportunity, and Michael Paulus was recently hired to take his position within the Ole Miss Athletics Foundation. Earlier this year, former football standout Deterrian Shackelford joined OMAF as a development assistant as well.
