Blue Defeats Red in Five

OXFORD, Miss. - In preparation for the season opener Friday, the Ole Miss volleyball team held its annual Red/Blue Scrimmage Monday night at the Gillom Sports Center. The Blue team defeated the Red team 3-2.
The Blue Team won the first set 25-17, but the Red team answered in the second set 25-19. Both teams traded sets again, with the Blue winning the third 25-16 and Red taking the fourth 25-15. In the deciding set, the Blue team got off to a fast start and ended up winning 15-8.
Head coach Steven McRoberts was pleased with what he saw. He talked about the competitiveness of the scrimmage and the team's goals for the season in the video below.
Freshman Kathryn Cather tallied 16 kills on a .382 clip to lead the Blue team, while sophomore transfer Kate Gibson led all players with 19 kills on the night. Sophomor Lexi Thompson also tallied 16 kills for the Blue Team. Returning All-American Nakeyta Clair finished with 12 kills for the Blue, while freshman Alexis Lee added 13 for the Red.
Afterwards, Gibson shared her thoughts on the first live action in front of fans.
The Rebels will open the 2015 season Friday against Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. in the second match of the Magnolia Invitational.
