OXFORD, Miss. -
After playing against each other for two weeks in preseason, the Ole Miss volleyball team finally got to face a different opponent Friday night, as the Rebels kicked off the 2015 season with a 3-0 win against Oral Roberts in the Magnolia Invitational.

The Rebels have now won 15 straight non-conference matches dating back to last year, when they finished 14-0 in non-conference play.

Senior middle blocker Nakeyta Clair picked up right where she left off last season, tallying 12 kills on a .579 clip to lead the Rebels. Sophomore Lexi Thompson added 10 kills hitting .318 and also had three service aces and six digs.

Two of the Rebel newcomers started their first match for the Red and Blue and both contributed. Sophomore transfer Kate Gibson posted eight kills, two assists, two service aces and 10 digs. Freshman Kathryn Cather tallied nine kills, hit .375 and added three service aces.




• Head coach Steven McRoberts notched his 497th career win. He needs three more to reach 500 for his career.
• Ole Miss improved to 18-21 in season openers all-time.
• The Rebels are now 1-1 against Oral Roberts.
• Nakeyta Clair has now posted an attack percentage above .300 in 24 of 33 matches dating back to the 2014 season.
• Saturday's first match will feature the Newcomers Club and Rebel Kids Club party as well as Melanie Crow poster giveaway. The nightcap will feature the Lexi Thompson poster giveaway.
