Ole Miss Captures Rebel Classic

OXFORD, Miss. - Paced by tournament MVP Aubrey Edie and all-tournament team members Nakeyta Clair and Lexi Thompson, the Ole Miss volleyball team defeated Buffalo and Southern Miss here Friday to capture the Rebel Classic at the Gillom Sports Center.
With the wins, the Rebels improved to 10-1 on the season.
After a 3-0 win over Belmont on Thursday night, the Rebels started slow in their first match Friday against Buffalo, falling behind 2-0 before rallying to win the next two sets to force a fifth and deciding set. In the fifth set, Buffalo had nine errors, hitting for a -.350 percentage, as the Rebels won it 15-7 to close out the 3-2 win (25-27, 21-25, 25-22, 25-15, 15-7).
In their final match of the tournament, Ole Miss handed Southern Miss their first loss of the year, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-20. The Rebels hit .343 with 50 kills, 33 digs and nine blocks, while holding the Golden Eagles to just .184.
Quick Hits
• Aubrey Edie earned tournament MVP honors for the second weekend in a row. She finished with 108 assists and hit .600. Against Southern Miss, Edie averaged 12.0 assists per set, hit .329 and recorded two service aces and five blocks.
• Nakeyta Clair was named to her second all-tournament team of the season. She posted 38 kills (3.45/s), hit .580 for the weekend and averaged 1.00 block a set. Against Southern Miss, Clair finished with 16 kills on a .667 clip and had four blocks.
• Lexi Thompson made the all-tournament team as well, tallying 24 kills, seven service aces and eight blocks. She had 10 kills vs. Southern Miss along with three service aces and two blocks.
• The Rebels have now won seven straight tournament titles dating back to 2014.
Next up for Ole Miss is a top 40 RPI team in Lipscomb, who comes in Wednesday at 6 p.m.
