Rebels Rally, Top NC State 3-2

RALEIGH, N.C. - In their first road test of the season, the Ole Miss volleyball team rallied to hand NC State a 3-2 loss in their first match of the Hilton Garden Inn Cary Classic here Friday night at Carmichael Gymnasium.
The Rebels improved to 5-1, while delivering NC State their first loss of the season.
Trailing 2-1 in the match and 24-21 in the fourth set, the Rebels staved off match points to win the set 26-24 and force a winner take all fifth set. With momentum on their side, the Rebels jumped out to a 7-3 lead and never looked back, winning 15-7 for the win.
Quick Hits
• Junior outside hitter Melanie Crow is back in the lineup after missing the opening weekend, and she was on point, tallying 22 kills, one off her career-high (23). She also added four assists, four digs and three blocks.
• Sophomore Kate Gibson added 16 kills, including six in the fifth set. She had eight digs as well.
• Nakeyta Clair threw in 12 kills and hit. 348 while also tallying five blocks, as the Rebels finished with 12 as a team.
• Junior Kristen Brashear finished the night with 18 digs, six assists and three service aces, including two in the final set.
• Junior Aubrey Edie passed out 49 assists and added four kills, eight digs and four blocks.
• The Rebels handed NC State their first home opening loss in Wolfpack head coach Bryan Bunn's tenure.
• Rebel assistant coach Angela Mooney and NC State assistant coach Kimberly Lambert coached together for two years as assistants at UTEP.
The Rebels will face Delaware Saturday at 9 a.m. CT, followed by Jacksonville University at 3:30 p.m. to close out the tournament.
