Rebels Hilton Garden Inn Classic Champions

RALEIGH, N.C. - After a tough five-setter on Friday night, the Ole Miss volleyball team (7-1) came back out Saturday and beat Delaware and Jacksonville both by a 3-0 score to capture the NC State Hilton Garden Inn Cary Classic.
Junior setter Aubrey Edie was named the tournament MVP, while senior middle blocker Ty Laporte made the all-tournament team. Edie finished with 126 assists for the tournament, added 10 kills, 31 digs and 9 blocks and hit .333. Laporte tallied 18 kills, 13 blocks and hit .333 on the weekend.
Jacksonville Match
The Rebels raced out to a big lead against Jacksonville and won the first set 25-11. In set two,the Rebels led 21-15, but the Dolphins used a 7-2 run to close to within one (23-22). A block by Edie and then a kill by Melanie Crow handed Ole Miss the set, 25-22 and a 2-0 lead in the match. The Rebels trailed by four late in the third set, but went on a 9-2 run to close out Jacksonville 25-22 and the tournament championship.
Delaware Rewind
Ole Miss needed only three sets against Delaware, but the match was closer than the 3-0 score. The Rebels won the first set 25-23 and the second 25-16 and at 24 all in the third set, Clair stepped up and delivered another match point for the Rebels, and then an attack error by the Blue Hens ended the set and the match in favor of the Rebels.
• This marks the sixth straight tournament title for the Rebels dating back to 2014.
• Aubrey Edie was named MVP of a tournament for the second time in her career after earning the honor in last year's Rebel Classic. This is the seventh all-tournament team she has been named to in her career.
• This is the fifth time for Ty Laporte to be named to an all-tournament team.
• Junior Melanie Crow finished the weekend with 52 kills (4.73/s) and hit .267. She also had five blocks and 25 digs, including a career-high 16 against Jacksonville.
• Nakeyta Clair averaged 3.09 kills per set and hit .459 for the weekend.
• Clair earned her 900th kill Saturday and has 911 for her career.
The Rebels return home to host the Rebel Classic Sept. 10-12 at the Gillom Sports Center. Teams coming to Oxford include Belmont, Buffalo and Southern Miss.
