Rebels Tee Off 2015 Season At Carpet Capital Collegiate

9/9/2015 | Men's Golf

Sept. 9, 2015

What: Carpet Capital Collegiate

When: September 11-13

Where: The Farm Golf Course, Rocky Face, Ga.

The Field: Georgia Tech (host), Alabama, Auburn, Chattanooga, Clemson, Dalton State, Florida, Kennesaw State, LSU, North Carolina, North Florida, Ole Miss, South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee

Course Stats: Par 72; 7,012 yards

Featured Hole: A 601-yard par 5, hole No. 2 is the longest on the course and challenges players' long iron and approach game. The water hazard on the left, mounds on the right and a two-tiered green will look to trouble players from posting great scores on this hole.

Player to watch: Junior Ben Wolcott, who led the team with a 71.72 stroke average last year, looks to lead the Rebels in their first tournament of the year. The Dickson, Tennessee native posted seven top-20 finishes a year ago, including two top 10s, and looks to continue improve as a veteran leader of the team.

Ole Miss Lineup: Ben Wolcott, Forrest Gamble, Noah West, Braden Thornberry, Beau Briggs

Quoting:

Head Coach Chris Malloy

Expectations on the season…

"We expect to continue to improve and capitalize on last year. We took a step in the right direction last year, but that is all it was, a step towards what we are trying to do. I look for this group to continue to build on that and have a successful year."

On his team's leaders…

"Forrest Gamble does all the right things. He will continue to lead the way. Ben Wolcott is our top returner from last year. He has played extremely well and had a good summer. Braden Thornberry is a highly touted freshman, so obviously he is going to contribute to this lineup immediately. Noah West, who has been playing some good golf, is a returner from last year. Beau Briggs, who is a freshman, took advantage of getting in the lineup for this first tournament as well."

On the field at the Carpet Capital Collegiate…

"It's a great field. Our goals are to win championships and to beat the beat teams in the country. To do that, you have to play the best teams in the country. We are looking forward to figuring out where we are as a team, and where we need to improve, and you don't do that playing against anything but the best. We are looking forward to the challenge; there is nowhere to run and hide. That is the beauty of golf and that is the beauty of this field."
