After a week of recuperation with the bye week, No. 12 Ole Miss heads back into the difficult SEC slate, this time in the form of No. 22 Arkansas.
"We enjoyed an off week," Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze said. " This Arkansas team is an extremely gritty football team and I think they get that of course from their coaches and also from their quarterback. This guy (quarterback Austin Allen) is a heck of a competitor."
Ole Miss will look to do what they were unable to do last season, slow down an Arkansas quarterback with the last name of Allen. Austin Allen has averaged more than 270 yards per game in the air through his first six games.
"He stands in there and takes hit after hit and continues to throw accurate balls and put up almost 500 yards on an Alabama defense, which is very, very good," Freeze said. "Up there, it is going to be a difficult challenge."
Arkansas is a team that has given Ole Miss some difficulty over the past two seasons. The Rebels will be looking to buck that trend on Saturday.
"(They were) two totally different games really," Freeze said. "The first one was in November in Fayetteville, the weather was awful and we were disappointed after a Laquon Treadwell injury that kind of nocked us out of things. Last year was a shootout, we couldn't stop them and they couldn't stop us."
This season, not many teams have been able to stop Ole Miss. Despite playing three top-15 opponents, They've rolled up at least 30 points in every game this season. Extending to last season, their current streak of nine-straight 30+ point games ranks as the second longest active streak in the nation. Of course, a big reason for that is Ole Miss' quarterback.
"(Kelly) has been efficient, he is accurate and led us to explosive plays," Freeze said. "Just taking care of the ball is the thing that we've got to continue to work on and improve."
When Ole Miss does take care of the football, they're tough to beat under Freeze. The Rebels are 19-4 since 2012 when they finish a game with a positive turnover margin.
"We are asking our young men to do everything they can do so that they have the best chance to win on the road in a tough environment Saturday night in Fayetteville," Freeze said.
The game kicks off at 6 p.m., on ESPN.
